Substation Maintenance

Regular Substation maintenance can limit the risk of significant plant downtime by preventing or identifying potential issues before problems occur. Reliability can only be established by apparatus testing under actual or simulation operating conditions.

Insurance and Standards: NETA & IEEE

Many insurance 'loss of use' coverage expect that the electrical system supplying the major manufacturing equipment be inspected, tested and maintained in order for insurance coverage to be valid. The National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) and IEEE both recommend annual electrical maintenance of the main system components in all manufacturing facilities.

What Techtric Engineering Can Offer

Substation Maintenance

Don't let costly repairs and emergency electrical services be your wake up call: Schedule a maintenance check and have your systems inspected before problems like substation failure arise - Techtric Engineering is here to help!

Infrared Inspection

Thermographic (infrared) inspection prior to the plant shut down, along with conclusive electrical tests during the plant shut down period will determine if equipment is operating properly, needs repairing, or should be replaced.

Outdoor Substation Gravel and Grounding

Substation Maintenance

Inspection of substation gravel and grounding grid. Removal of vegetation within enclosure that will entangle electrical equipment and attract animals causing arcs and failure if left unchecked. Removal and disposal of contaminated transformer gravel. Replacement of gravel and repair grounding grid as per IEEE Standard 80.

Substation Oil Sampling

Older customer-owned oil based substations should have regular oil sampling done to identify degradation trends and prolong transformer life. As transformers heat up and age, chemicals and particles are released into the oil before certain types of failure that testing can predict to prevent unplanned downtime. These test results are compiled over time to create patterns and maintenance plans that best meet your unique needs and schedule. This sampling work can be done completely live.

How We Can Help

Our skilled and experienced high voltage engineers will carry out your substation maintenance with minimal disruption to your daily operations. We can perform the work during weekends, holiday shutdowns or 'off shifts.'

We will provide you with written reports outlining the current condition and performance of your equipment. We will also recommend areas where improvements or additional repairs/maintenance should be carried out.
